Job plans to erect one of the 15 gas holders once found in St.Louis Missouri.

The following photos are from a dusty riveted bond book of blueprints and photos used to construct one of the 15 gas holders maintained by Laclede Gas and Light. At that time Laclede Gas and Light control all the gas in St.Louis Missouri from the street rails, gas lighting as well as home and business. Today Laclede Gas and Light is only Laclede Gas co. and no longer use the holders to store gas. Only one of the fifteen holders still standing and is planned to be torn down as well.

  1. Thoroughly enjoyed going over the proposal, page by page. Back in the 1970s, in the course of railfanning I noticed Gas holders in eastern Massachusetts beginning to be demolished and began photographing the remaining ones. These included some of obvious Ritter Conley origin, such as a 3mm one at Lowell, Mass. and a 2mm and 4mm items at Worcester. Moving west I had a chance to shoot a 10mm holder at Long Beach. I expect to digitize some of slides that resulted and would be glad to share the images. Ken Patton
